Skywatch basics

Four habits that separate observers from spectators, and from the people who got fooled by Starlink last week.

  1. 01

    Verify

Cross-check against flight trackers, satellite passes, weather balloons, and known military operations before forming a theory.

  2. 02

    Compare

Look for additional witnesses, alternate angles, and matching reports nearby. One blurry clip is not a case.

  3. 03

    Log

Record time, location, bearing, altitude estimate, conditions, and what you ruled out. A sighting note beats a hot take.

  4. 04

    Wait

Most sightings resolve within 48 hours once more data lands. The cost of waiting is much lower than the cost of being wrong loudly.
